CDC’s approval of COVID-19 vaccine

Despite the controversy surrounding the new vaccine, it remains the most effective weapon against COVID-19. The CDC is set to consider approving the first COVID-19 vaccine for kids under the age of five. Approval would mark a significant milestone in our nation’s fight against the virus, and would make the COVID-19 vaccine available for nearly every American.

Vaccines for children ages 5 to 11

President Biden recently said that vaccines for children ages five to eleven will soon be available to the general public. The vaccine for hepatitis A is now approved for use in children as early as six months old. While the vaccine for hepatitis B is not approved for pediatric use, the administration of the lower-dose shots to children is a welcome step. Vaccines for children will require that the government increase the number of children participating in the clinical trial.

Pfizer-BioNTech

The new Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA reviewed a study that included more than two thousand children aged 12 to 15 in the U.S. Half of the children received the vaccine while the other half received a placebo shot. Among the children who received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, a total of 1,005 showed no signs of the disease after the second dose. Moderna

A debate is brewing over the use of vaccines for children. Moderna is seeking to expand use of the COVID-19 vaccine to younger children and hopes to introduce the new shot to millions of children by summer. Teenagers have also experienced heart inflammation after receiving the Moderna vaccine, which has a higher dose than Pfizer’s vaccine.
